The Design Client Library (AKA Studio as a Service) team is a self-contained front-end JavaScript library used to power client-side editors for creating/editing designs for the mass customization market. It is built with modularity in mind, allowing customization of some or all modules, URIs used by existing modules, and the UI.  It currently supports simple print and embroidery product design experiences and our future goal is to extend it to support all of our brand’s product categories on desktop and mobile experiences.

A large part of this work is focused on creating new, more intuitive user experiences for customizing products virtually over the web, disrupting how customers purchase many of these products currently.

While much of this is green field development, it requires exceptional engineers that will routinely have a huge impact on the business.  Engineers are expected to have an understanding of back-end and middle tier development and expert level knowledge of client side development, technologies and best practices.

Particular focus will be on delivering truly innovative user interfaces that let people seamlessly select, design, and preview customized products online.  You will work with multiple technologies and programming languages.  We’re currently working on a number of interesting projects that will have strategic impact for the business:

  • Substantial improvements to our product visualization capabilities including accurately depicting particular types of decoration on non-flat, irregularly shaped products.  These improvements will be leveraged in highly configurable ways such that they can be easily extended to partner organizations.
  • Catalog and product organization and find-ability improvements including algorithms that leverage deep product data to easily find similar or related products amongst very large product populations
  • We have a number of other challenging projects in our queue that have the opportunity to vastly improve our customer experience, e.g. in-line text, dynamic design portability and re-colorization and merchant tools to support integration with locally specific brands or customer

What we expect from you:

  • Extensive experience in one of the following: Node.js / JavaScript, Java or C#
  • Familiarity with at least one other language, preferably more: Node.js, Java, C#, Python, Ruby
  • Extensive frontend development experience with AngularJS and/or React.
  • An interest in developing software in a multi-programing language environment
  • An appreciation for both giving and receiving feedback.
  • Eagerness to learn and continuously improve.
  • Experience with Agile beyond just a buzzword.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

What you’ll get in return:

  • Casual workplace and small, passionate team.
  • A chance to work on/solve some of the most technically challenging problems you will see in the industry.
  • Flexible hours, respect for work/life balance.
  • Brand new LEED-certified building with an open-office plan, a company shuttle to/from MBTA Alewife station, and EV parking.
  • Stocked kitchen with free fresh fruit, snacks, and beverages.
  • Gym, fitness classes, and monthly massages on-site.
