Summary:

 

As part of the manufacturing finance team, the Cost Engineer will be an integral role within the newly created costing function.  The goal of this position is to assist in the creation of unit costs through a standardized costing methodology for all manufacturing products.  This function will work closely together with Plant Finance, Product Teams and our Merchants.  The ultimate result being that Cimpress has an accurate costing system which will be the foundation for direct pricing decisions, make vs buy tradeoffs and efficient improvements in our production facilities.

 

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a deep understanding of cost estimating and cost accounting systems.  The candidate should be comfortable in a high-performance environment working with cross functional teams in the establishment of a system to create and maintain standard unit costs across the organization.

 

What will you do as a Cost Engineer?

  • Assist in the development of a unit costing system across all and future fulfillment locations.
  • Create, review and update unit costs and bills of material including labor, overhead and material rates.
  • Evaluate changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods to determine effects on costs and update as appropriate.
  • Close interaction with customer of the Unit Costs including plant finance, engineering, logistics and product teams.
  • Review all reporting that comes out of the cost accounting system in support of pricing or make versus buy decisions.
  • Analyze and compare actual costs to standards and assist plant finance in understanding variances.
  • Interact with plant finance, purchasing, industrial engineers, product group and other manufacturing functions in providing relevant and timely costing information.
  • Propose and help implement strategies to improve efficiency and optimize cost.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and standard runs at manufacturing plants.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and/or Industrial Engineering.
  • Deep understanding of cost accounting systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be proactive and action-oriented.
  • Understanding of impact of cost drivers on overall financials.
  • Analytical thinker that is able to understand the relationship between different systems.
  • Detailed oriented with ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to spend time on the production floor to fully understand the manufacturing process.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, high energy and enthusiasm for a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in the use of SAP, MS Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
